This is the combined policy statement for all services and websites of GasPedal LLC and our CEO, Andy Sernovitz, including WordofMouth.org, Board.org, SocialMedia.org, SocialMedia.org Health, the Talent Marketing Board, DamnIWish.com, WordofMouthBook.com and related blogs, newsletters, publications, conferences, and services.
GasPedal LLC is the management company that operates all of our other projects, and is the sole owner of these projects. Andy is the sole owner of GasPedal. Here is the current employee roster. Members of the team have their own personal social media activities, with independent disclosures. Andy does some work under his own name, which is included in the list below.
We strongly believe in clear and conspicuous disclosure and the principle of separating advertising from editorial content. Here’s what we do and who we work with:
GasPedal offers consulting services to lots of great companies, and you can find our client list here. Our consulting is currently focused on word of mouth marketing and social media. We used to consult on email marketing, ecommerce, and entrepreneurship.
Andy Sernovitz is a professional speaker and blogger who has worked for many paying clients. His consulting clients are included on the GasPedal client page. He’s presented more than 200 keynotes, often for a fee. A summary is available here and a full list is available upon request. Andy has a few advisory board positions and angel investments. Some of these roles are under NDA, but will be disclosed whenever material to the situation.
Andy’s blog is called “Damn, I Wish I’d Thought of That!” and is written by him with some assistance from the GasPedal team.
Board.org is the community for people leading change at the world’s biggest companies. SocialMedia.org is the community for social media leaders at the world’s greatest brands. SocialMedia.org Health is the community for people running social media at major hospitals. The Talent Marketing Board is community for people leading employer brand and recruitment marketing at the world’s biggest companies. Here are the current members lists for SocialMedia.org, SocialMedia.org Health, and the Talent Marketing Board. Our members pay dues to participate. We also sell passes for our conferences. SocialMedia.org and Board.org do not provide consulting or marketing services.
WordofMouth.org is an educational website that teaches word of mouth marketing. All content is written by the GasPedal staff, except for guest posts. The authors of all guest posts are clearly identified in each post. WordofMouth.org sells conference passes, conference sponsorships, advertising, and listings in our vendor directory. Those paying customers are clearly identified where their promotions appear.
The book Word of Mouth Marketing: How Smart Companies Get People Talking is written and owned by Andy Sernovitz. GasPedal is the publisher of the book.
Stuff we receive: Occasionally, our friends and clients send us samples that we sometimes write about and share. In those instances, we clearly and conspicuously disclose that relationship. Other times, individuals or companies send us free samples after we’ve written about them — in which case any future mentions disclose this relationship. We repeat these disclosures at all reasonable opportunities, until the relationship between us and the company/product becomes clearly known to the average user.
All content on our websites and blogs is the work of the GasPedal staff, except for specific posts that are credited to guest authors. Guest authors will be clearly identified in each post. Guest authors may have their own issues to disclose and we insist that they do so.
None of our sites serve as an official or unofficial communications vehicle for any other organization, and in no way does GasPedal represent the views of its clients or members. Views in guest posts are the independent views of those authors.
We have a clear separation between editorial content and our paid work. Anything we write about that is related to our paid work will be clearly and conspicuously disclosed in the post.
Comments and Moderation
Our content and blogs are written in a spirit of openness and we encourage comments. Comments are open, but we do moderate them. We will remove all comments that are off-topic, spammy, overly self-promotional, abusive, inappropriate, or uncivil in any way.
Anonymous comments on our sites are likely to be moderated or deleted.
Disclosure is one of our core values. Feel free to debate or disagree with us, but please identify yourself (as we do here) so everyone’s agendas can be open for all readers to see. If you use an alias for privacy or security, you should clearly indicate any bias, agenda, or affiliation. Anonymity has an important role online, but it also empowers anyone who wants to be disruptive and destroy the conversation without making a real contribution. Disclosure forces people to be honest and to take responsibility for their own words.

If you wish to be removed from any postal, email, phone, or other lists, please let us know by phone, mail, or using this form. Please provide us with your exact name, address, email, and phone. We will be sure your name is removed from the appropriate list immediately.
We do not partner with or have special relationships with any ad server companies. We always use industry-standard encryption technologies when transferring and receiving consumer data exchanged with our site.
