Carnegie DeliBefore you launch a product, run an ad, create a sale, host an event — whatever — before you do it, ask yourself: Would anyone tell a friend about this?

It’s the number one rule in word of mouth marketing. Without the element of “remarkable,” your product, your idea, and your story won’t spread.

The Carnegie Deli in New York follows this rule when making their corned beef sandwiches 7-inches high. Even if they didn’t, it would still be the best corned beef in the world — but its massive size guarantees that hordes of tourists will tell everyone about it.

The Lesson: You don’t have to be a fancy New York restaurant to attain “remarkable.” It’s how you answer your phone, how fast you ship your orders, how long you guarantee your products, and how friendly your service technicians are. And above all, remarkable is what you do, not what you say.
